The Election Preferences page allows users to configure the specific details of how an election will be conducted. This includes settings for ballot access, security, elector preferences, and advanced features such as booth voting.

Access the Election Preferences Page

Navigate to the Election Preferences section by selecting an election and clicking on the "Preferences" tab.

This will open the preferences configuration screen, where you can customize various aspects of the election process.

Ballot Access

Ensures that only authorized electors can vote, and with the unique link, it reduces risks of fraud or multiple votes by the same person.

  • Common link: A single URL is provided to all electors, which simplifies access but has lower security.

  • Unique link: Each elector gets a unique URL, enhancing security by preventing unauthorized access.

IP Restriction

This prevents someone from voting multiple times from the same internet connection, adding another layer of security. Restricts multiple votes from the same IP address.

  • How to use: Toggle this feature to enable/disable IP restrictions.

Ballot Link Delivery Method

Offers flexibility in how electors get access to their ballots, making the process convenient for everyone, especially those who prefer one method over the other.

  • Email: Electors receive their ballot link via email.

  • SMS: Electors receive the link via text message.

MFA Code Delivery

Sets up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for secure access. Enhances security by ensuring that only the right elector can access and vote through MFA verification.

  • Email: Electors get a verification code via email.

  • SMS: Electors get a verification code via SMS.

  • Additional option: You can prevent manual code entry for SMS, which adds an extra layer of security.

Ballot Acknowledgement

Allows electors to receive a confirmation after they vote. Provides a receipt of the vote, ensuring transparency and trust in the voting process.

  • Email: A confirmation is sent to the elector’s email.

  • SMS: A confirmation is sent via SMS.

Sharing of Elector’s Ballot Copy

Determines how the elector will receive a copy of their completed ballot. Gives electors a record of their vote, either via email or direct download, for reference or transparency.

  • Direct download: The elector can download their ballot directly.

  • Email: The ballot copy is sent via email.

Security Preferences

Offers advanced security settings for the election process. These settings protect voter anonymity and ensure that each voter can only vote once, enhancing trust in the election process.

  • Do Not Track: Prevents the system from tracking electors’ votes, ensuring complete anonymity.

  • Editable Votes: Electors are allowed to change their votes after submission.

  • Prevent Duplicate Device: Stops electors from using the same device more than once for voting.

Elector Preferences

Customizes how electors are handled in the election system. These preferences offer flexibility for situations where electors might share contact information or where updates are needed after the election goes live.

  • Duplicate Email Addresses: Allows the use of the same email address for multiple electors.

  • Duplicate Phone Numbers: Allows the use of the same phone number for multiple electors.

  • Update After Publish: Electors’ details can be updated after the election has been published.

Set Candidate Preferences

Customizes the way candidates are displayed to electors. This feature makes the candidate display more intuitive and visually clear, which can improve voter experience.

  • Display Order: Choose whether the order of candidates is set manually or automatically.

  • Candidate Photos: Allows you to display candidate photos.

  • Candidate Symbols: Allows candidate symbols to be shown.

  • Candidate Grouping: Groups candidates by categories.

Configure Advanced Preferences

Provides advanced customization for complex election setups. Advanced preferences are essential for elections with special requirements, such as multi-location voting or segmented ballots.

  • Segmented Ballot: Breaks the ballot into different sections based on elector details (like region or group).

  • Booth Voting: Enables voting in a physical location.

  • PWA for Booth Voting: Adds the election app to the home screen of booth devices for easier access.

Set PWA (Progressive Web App) Settings

Configures the Progressive Web App (PWA) for the election. PWAs provide a mobile-friendly, app-like experience, making it easier for electors to vote using their mobile devices.

  • Name/Short Name: Defines the name of the election displayed on the PWA.

  • Icon: Uploads an icon for branding.

  • Icon Sizes: Ensures the icon fits specific dimensions.

Configure Booth Voting

Configures settings for physical, in-person voting booths. These settings ensure a smooth and secure in-person voting process, especially for managing login and ballot confirmation.

  • Login/Logout by Admin/Self: Controls whether booth login/logout is managed by the admin or the elector.

  • Voted Ballot Print: Decide if ballots should be printed.

  • Flash Voted Ballot: Briefly shows the elector’s ballot on the screen for confirmation.

Once all settings are configured, click Save Preferences button and apply the changes. This ensures that all the customizations are applied and the election runs as per the configured settings.
